Getting Outside the Walls 2025:
Congregational Grants for Climate Action in Local Communities

The Getting Outside the Walls: Congregational Grants for Climate Action in Local Communities grants seek to mobilize faith-based organizations towards impactful local climate action. Recognizing the significant role that congregations play in community leadership and moral guidance, this program aims to reduce barriers that hinder climate action in local communities.

This program intends to catalyze innovative climate collaborations, foster deeper inter-congregational and organizational relationships, and provide ongoing support for faith communities through Blessed Tomorrow.

Application period: March 27, 2025 - May 1, 2025.

Meet the 2024 Grantees!

Application Information

Objective:

  1. Empower Congregations: To support congregations to thrive through active participation in local climate action.

  2. Reduce Barriers: Reduce obstacles that keep congregations from taking climate action in their local communities.

  3. Incentivize Community Action: Motivate and incentivize climate action in local communities among congregations or congregations with other local organizations.

Scope: Grants ranging from $500-$1,000 will be awarded to support diverse collaborative projects in local communities that are fresh initiatives and not extensions of ongoing work. These projects should be led by faith leaders who participated in the National Faith + Climate Forum on March 27, 2025, and may include:

  • State and local organizing and advocacy efforts.

  • Community-based climate justice or creation care actions or events.

  • Climate projects and programs to engage the local community.

  • Educational programs on climate change and faith.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Congregations must be located in the United States.

  • Projects must introduce a new component to existing work, explicitly focusing on fresh initiatives rather than extending ongoing projects.

  • The focus of the project must be on climate change or creation care.

  • Collaboration between two or more congregations, or one congregation and one or more other organizations, is required.

  • At least one of the faith leaders involved in the project must have attended the National Faith + Climate Forum on March 27, 2025. Projects involving host locations from the 2025 Forum will receive special consideration.

  • Matching contributions are required—monetary or in-kind (e.g. venue provision, printing services, or time).

  • Proposals should include plans to continue or expand upon the collaborative efforts beyond the initial project.

  • Intentions to work toward collective impact at the city, state, or regional level on climate or creation care.
